Supplying of yeast cultures

Yeasts are supplied as live cultures (on slant agars) under the conditions of the Material Transfer Agreement. Yeasts belonging to risk group 2 can only be transported by a licensed courier. This service is to be paid by the recipient.

Prices for yeast cultures are given in the Price List.

Deposit in the open collection

Yeasts and yeast-like organisms of various origins and with diverse properties are welcome in the CCY. Deposit in the open collection is recommended for the purpose of describing new species. No charges are made.

Cultures of the strain deposited in the open collection will be available to third parties, according to the Material Transfer Agreement , at a cost given in the Price list.

As the CCY has the right to decline a yeast culture offered, before sending a strain for deposit in the public collection, please contact the CCY (e-mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Safe deposit

A deposit in this manner is strictly confidential. No data concerning the depositor and the culture deposited are accessible to the public. When the depositor terminates deposit, the culture will be destroyed.

Safe deposit can be contracted for a minimum one year. The charges are given in the Price List. Before sending a strain for safe deposit, please contact the CCY (e-mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).

Deposit of yeast cultures for patent purposes

The CCY acquired the status of an International Depository Authority under Budapest Treaty, on the international recognition of the deposit for the purpose of patent procedure, in 1992.

A deposit in this manner is strictly confidential. No data concerning the depositor and the strain deposited are accessible to the public.

Patent deposit under the Budapest Treaty is contracted for a period at least 30 years. The charges are given in the Price List. Before sending a strain for patent deposit, please contact the CCY (e-mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).

Identification of yeast cultures

The CCY offers identification of yeast cultures using conventional methods - the morphological, physiological and biochemical properties of cultures are tested according to the book the Yeasts – a taxonomic study edited by Kurtzman et al. (2011) or using DNA sequence analysis (sequencing of D1/D2 domain of 26S rRNA gene.

If the yeast culture is supplied as a mixture of microorganisms, additional costs will be asked to purify a yeast culture. The charges are given in the Price list.
